Complex Risks... Distinctive Solutions

Large consulting firms can offer an impressive array of experience, skills, and services. In some situations that is exactly what’s called for, but in many cases big does not equal better. There are distinct advantages of working with small consulting firms. Our intent is to stay the right size for meeting our clients’ needs. Here are some of the reasons why.

  • Clients have the right to know what they are getting, who is doing the work, and who they can hold accountable. We do not pass on our work to less-experienced staff, do not create any complicated chains of command, and do not lose anything in translation from one employee to the other. With us, the person who does the selling also does the work. This removes any excuse for unclear expectations.

  • We don’t have to allocate significant time to costly oversight, training, and project management. We have more time to actually do the work. This means we can usually do the work at a lower cost and within the client’s timeframe.

  • We deal with fewer clients, allowing us to better concentrate on understanding their business. We have more time to focus on doing the work we love to do, providing good service, and giving every client top priority, and less need to worry about short-term revenue goals. We believe this makes us more personable, accessible, adaptable, and easy to work with.

  • We have more impetus to collaborate with the client, because we can’t come in with all the answers. This reduces the tendency to “fit the diagnosis to the prescription,” or the assumption that pre-packaged solutions are useful for solving unique problems. We can truly customize every response. Both parties can share in finding solutions, and both can share credit for the success.

  • We remove the pressure for cross-selling. We have no software, data, manuals, or alternate services to sell, and no associated development costs to cover. We simply want to sell our skills, expertise, and reputation.

  • Looking back, our best experiences as a client of other consulting firms were with those that had nothing to sell other than their expertise. We want our clients to have the same experience with us.
